Ahora te Puedes Marchar

Ivor Raymonde, who co-wrote the original melody behind the song, saw his 1964 composition take on a second life in Spanish two decades later. "Ahora Te Puedes Marchar" was recorded by Mexican singer Luis Miguel and released in 1987 as the lead single from his fifth studio album, Soy Como Quiero Ser, issued through Warner Music Latina. The track was a Spanish-language adaptation of Dusty Springfield's single "I Only Want to Be with You", with translated lyrics supplied by Luis Gómez-Escolar.

The adaptation flipped the sentiment of the original. Where Springfield's version was devoted, the Spanish lyrics found Miguel telling a former lover she could walk away, after not having been a good partner. The song also appeared as "Agora Você Pode Ir" on the 1988 Portuguese-language release of the album, and later opened Miguel's 2005 greatest hits collection Grandes Exitos.

The single traveled well across Latin America. Charts published by El Informador had it topping the listings in Mexico and Santiago, while it reached number 9 in Panama. In the United States, it became Miguel's first number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, and at 17 years old he was the youngest artist to have topped that chart at the time.
