Better Be Home Soon

Neil Finn wrote "Better Be Home Soon" for Crowded House, the band he fronted as vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter after helping form it in Melbourne in 1985. The track appeared on the group's second studio album, Temple of Low Men, released in July 1988, and Capitol Records issued it as a single the month before. It reached number two in Australia and New Zealand, topped Canada's The Record chart, and landed at number 42 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The music video took the band in a strange direction. Bassist Nick Seymour, who played double bass in it because "it just looks better", described Dickensian costumes and a theatre stuck out in the desert. He admitted the clip made people see things the song was not really about, since the lyrics concerned being home and how it was better being home. He compared the concept to the INXS video for Listen Like Thieves, which he had worked on, though he noted that one was "sort of macho".

Crowded House played the song at their 1996 charity performance Farewell to the World, ending the version with a country or polka style double-time feeling, possibly a nod to the song being described as "country-ish". They also performed it as an encore at the Sydney Live Earth concert and included it in their set at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival. After drummer Paul Hester died in 2005, Finn sang it solo at the ARIA Awards while a montage of Hester's life played behind him.
