Blind

Korn came together in 1993 in Bakersfield, California, formed by James "Munky" Shaffer, Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, and David Silveria, all formerly of the band L.A.P.D. That same year the group recorded a demo tape called Neidermayer's Mind, which they distributed free to record companies and to members of the public on request. One track on that demo, "Blind", had actually been written earlier, while vocalist Jonathan Davis was still in a band called Sexart, before he left to join Korn.

The song became the first single from Korn's self-titled debut album, released in August 1994. Although Sexart had completed the original piece, Korn reworked it for the LP. They added an extended intro built on a faster interpolation of the drum intro to Primus's "Too Many Puppies", using drum cymbals and a small bass line, which led into the original Sexart introduction. They also made a small musical change beneath the chorus lyric "I'm so blind", a change that only came about once the album was recorded.

The ending received its own treatment. The bass coda that closes "Blind" quotes Cypress Hill's song "Lick a Shot", though it had nothing to do with the song itself. Korn released the track without crediting Sexart's original songwriters, Dennis Shinn and Ryan Shuck. Both men were later credited when the song appeared on the compilation Greatest Hits Vol. 1 in 2004.
