In 1972 Uriah Heep released "Easy Livin'" as the second single from their album Demons and Wizards, and shot a basic music video for it the same year. The British rock band's song gave them their first hit in the United States and their only top 40 hit there, peaking at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1972.

It did best in the Netherlands, reaching number 5. It also reached the Top 20 in Norway, Denmark, Finland and Germany, and number 25 in Canada. It never reached the UK Singles Chart. Along with "The Wizard", it helped the band achieve stardom in many countries.

In 1988 the band released a live version with new vocalist Bernie Shaw as a UK single from the album Live in Moscow. A re-recorded version followed on the 2009 album Celebration: Forty Years of Rock. The song has been in most of their live sets since 1973, and it is the second most covered song they have, behind "Lady in Black".

Easy Livin' runs at 160 BPM, the tempo of footwork, gabber and fast metal. In classical terms it sits in vivace territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.5 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 375 ms. It is in A minor, Camelot 8A, which shares its notes with C major and mixes cleanly with D minor and E minor.
