Sofia Coppola competed for the judges' approval in the video for "Elektrobank," a September 1997 single by the Chemical Brothers from their album Dig Your Own Hole. Spike Jonze, Coppola's boyfriend at the time, directed the clip, which framed the track around a mixed artistic and rhythmic gymnastics competition. The video has since been called arguably Jonze's greatest work in the format, and an audio commentary from him appears on the DVD edition of the compilation The Chemical Brothers: Singles 93–03.
The single reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. Despite that showing, it was left off both of the duo's singles compilations, Singles 93–03 and Brotherhood.
Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons wrote and produced the track, recording it at Orinoco Studios in South London, with Simon Phillips on drums and Steve Dub handling engineering. A vocal sample from Keith Murray's "This That Shit" supplied the line "Who is dis doin' this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic funkin'?", while the voice introducing the track came from DJ Kool Herc, captured live at Irving Plaza in late 1996. Mike Marsh mastered the finished recording at The Exchange in London.
