Gold Dust

DJ Fresh, the English producer Daniel Edward Stein, was running the drum and bass label Breakbeat Kaos with Adam F and performing as a principal member of the group Bad Company when "Gold Dust" emerged as the third single from his second album, Kryptonite. The track first appeared as a 12" release in 2008. Two years later it was re-released with vocals from Ce'cile, and that version peaked at number 24 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song kept evolving. The 2012 album Nextlevelism carried a different version, this one featuring Ms. Dynamite on vocals, and in 2012 Shy FX made a re-edit that was sent back to radio. That re-edit climbed to number 22 on the UK Singles Chart and number 39 on the Irish Singles Chart. Combined sales of all versions eventually passed 1,800,000 copies, earning a triple Platinum certification even though the song never cracked the UK top twenty.

The music video, directed by Ben Newman and edited by Jacek Zajkowski, was filmed at the Brownsville Project in Brooklyn. It captured performances by the American Double Dutch champions Jumpers in Command, with young people skateboarding, skipping and free running across the screen. The skipping footage in particular drew attention when the video spread online, with viewers sharing what became known as "the skipping video" on their phones.
