I'm Outta Love

The single that would become Anastacia's biggest early hit barely registered in her home country. "I'm Outta Love" spent only three weeks on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 92, and as of 2016 it remained her only entry on that chart. Overseas the story was completely different. The song topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the Wallonia region of Belgium, and it finished 2000 as the highest-selling single of the year in both Australia and New Zealand. The Australian Recording Industry Association certified it double platinum for sales above 140,000 copies, while in New Zealand it went platinum after shipping more than 15,000 units.

The track came together quickly once Epic Records executive David Massey set the project in motion. He had offered Anastacia a recording contract with Daylight, his custom label under Sony's Epic company, in March 1999, and he turned to Sam Watters of Color Me Badd for material that could match her powerful voice. Within three or four days, Watters delivered an early demo, which Anastacia then developed with him and co-producer Louis Biancaniello. The writers aimed for a funk-influenced, high-energy pop song in the spirit of "I Will Survive" and "It's Raining Men", one that would make listeners move and feel happy.

When asked on the British show Later... with Jools Holland whether the song was about anyone specific, Anastacia answered that it concerned many people, several past relationships where a love thing had never quite materialized.
