By the summer of 2024, "In and Out of Love" had found a second life on social media. Teasers of a new version by French producer Rivo drew more than 15 million combined views on TikTok before the track was even out, and Armada Music released it on 28 June 2024, credited as "Rivo vs Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel". Van Buuren had already played it during a back-to-back set with David Guetta at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
The original dated back to 2008, when Armin van Buuren recorded the song for his third studio album, Imagine. It featured vocals from Sharon den Adel, lead singer of Within Temptation, and arrived as the second single from the album, following "Going Wrong". Release dates varied by edition, with a five-track EP listed by Apple Music for 4 August 2008 and van Buuren's own website listing an Armind single for 18 September. Remixes by Richard Durand and the Norwegian duo The Blizzard came with it. Van Buuren's website described the original as "breakbeat-ish".
The song kept generating new versions over the years. A Lost Frequencies remix appeared through Armada Music in March 2015, a Diversion remix followed on Armind in August 2016, and an Innellea remix arrived on A State of Trance in July 2023. The official music video had passed 375 million YouTube views by September 2024, making it the second most watched video on Armada Music's channel. In 2019, the symphonic metal band Visions of Atlantis covered it on their album Wanderers.
