In 2011 an alternate version of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" appeared on the bonus disc of the remastered deluxe edition of the Jailbreak album. It opens with a short spoken introduction and has additional guitar parts throughout. The original had been the title track of the band's 1976 album of the same name. Radio had been playing it frequently ever since.
Alongside "The Boys Are Back in Town," it is one of the band's most popular songs. It is typical of Thin Lizzy, built on dual lead guitar harmony and Brian Robertson's wah-wah pedal. Phil Lynott's lyrics tell of a prison break. The tough guys in them are a type he returned to in both "The Boys Are Back in Town" and "The Rocker." The second was the regular concert closer and a fan favorite.
Jailbreak runs at 145 BPM, the tempo of dubstep and trap counted in half time, and hardstyle. In classical terms it sits in allegro territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.66 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 414 ms. It is in Eb major, Camelot 5B, which shares its notes with C minor and mixes cleanly with Ab major and Bb major.
