Lido Shuffle

Boz Scaggs was assembling the musicians for his 1976 album Silk Degrees when "Lido Shuffle" took shape. He had hand-picked the players after taking suggestions from several people, and among them were David Paich, Jeff Porcaro and David Hungate, the trio who would later form Toto. Scaggs credited the album with helping that band come together.

The song began with a piano habit. Scaggs explained that he had been banging the idea around for a while, taking the shuffle from a Fats Domino recording called "The Fat Man", which carried a driving shuffle beat he used to play. He started singing along with it, then brought it to Paich, who helped him fill it out until it became "Lido Shuffle". The finished track appeared on Silk Degrees, produced by Joe Wissert, an album that climbed to number 2 on the Billboard 200.

Released in 1977 as the album's fourth single, "Lido Shuffle" reached number 11 in the United States and number 13 in the United Kingdom. In Australia it did even better, spending three weeks at number 2 as a double A-side hit paired with "What Can I Say". The song later found an unusual second life at football games: the Philadelphia Eagles adopted it to play whenever cornerback Lito Sheppard made an interception.
