"Love in an Elevator" earned Aerosmith a Grammy nomination in 1990 for Best Hard Rock Performance, but Living Colour won. The RIAA also certified it gold. Released in August 1989 as the lead single from Pump, it peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart. Steven Tyler said it came from something that happened to him. He was making out with a woman in an elevator when the doors opened. In his words, it felt like a lifetime waiting for those doors to close.

Like the rest of Pump, the track was recorded at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver. Bruce Fairbairn produced, Mike Fraser engineered and Ken Lomas was second engineer. Catherine Epps is credited on the track as the elevator operator.

Marty Callner directed the video, which opens with the band walking through the Los Angeles department store Bullocks Wilshire. An operator, played by former Playboy model Brandi Brandt, asks Tyler suggestively if he is going down. He leaps in, and the band then plays onstage, cut with flashes of the store.

Love in an Elevator runs at 93 BPM, the tempo of hip-hop, R&B and reggaeton. In classical terms it sits in andante territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 2.58 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 645 ms.
