"Money" was released as a single and became Pink Floyd's first hit in the United States. It reached number 10 in Cash Box and number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Roger Waters wrote it, and it opened side two of The Dark Side of the Moon in 1973. Pink Floyd played it on most tours from 1972 on. David Gilmour re-recorded it in 1981, and Waters released his own re-recording in 2023.

The song opens with a loop of sound effects. Waters made it by splicing together recordings of clinking coins, a ringing cash register, tearing paper, a clicking counting machine, and other items into a seven-beat loop. It was used at early live shows, then had to be re-recorded onto multi-track tape for the album, and later adapted to four tracks for the quadraphonic mix.

Waters made the demo, including some of the effects, in a makeshift studio in his garden shed. He later called it "prissy and very English", unlike the band's "bluesy, transatlantic" version. Recording began on June 6, 1972 at Abbey Road. Dick Parry played the tenor saxophone solo. Waters wrote the lyrics with irony, and said he remembered "coveting a Bentley like crazy".

Money runs at 122 BPM, the tempo of house, disco and most club dance music. In classical terms it sits in allegro territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.97 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 492 ms. It is in B minor, Camelot 10A, which shares its notes with D major and mixes cleanly with E minor and F# minor.
