John Langstaff recorded a version of "All the Ducks", an English translation of the traditional Dutch children's song "Alle Eendjes Zwemmen in het Water", and it was his recording that Lemon Jelly built "Nice Weather for Ducks" around. The British electronic duo sampled Langstaff's track extensively, making it the primary foundation of the song, which appeared on their second studio album Lost Horizons from 2002.
There was a complication with the sample. Lemon Jelly could not clear the rights to use Langstaff's voice, so the vocals heard on the finished track were performed instead by the Scottish actor Enn Reitel. The song was released as a single on 20 January 2003.
"Nice Weather for Ducks" spent three weeks on the UK chart and peaked at number 16. It remains one of the tracks from Lost Horizons, the album it was drawn from.
Nice Weather for Ducks runs at 133 BPM, the tempo of techno, trance and big-room dance. In classical terms it sits in allegro territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.8 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 451 ms. It is in G major, Camelot 9B, which shares its notes with E minor and mixes cleanly with C major and D major.
