British producers Hemstock & Jennings originally released the track as "Arctic" in 2002, and it was that record that German DJ Paul van Dyk re-worked into "Nothing but You". Released in March 2003 as a single in association with Hemstock & Jennings, the song featured trance singer Jan Johnston as well as Kym Marsh on vocals. It reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart, number six on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number three on the Dutch Single Top 100.
The vocals in the track were sung in Norwegian. One line translates as a declaration of having nothing, but having everything when the singer has the person addressed.
The music video was filmed in the style of van Dyk's Reflections album and included images of the streets of Cape Town. It followed a girl who climbed to the roof of her apartment building while a boy did the same on the other side of the street, interspersed with shots of van Dyk in his apartment suite doing mundane activities with a glum look on his face. At various points he looked up at the unnamed girl and thought to himself, but in the end did nothing, while she connected with the boy opposite. The two climbed down, met in the street and kissed. The video's meaning likely reflected the vocals: van Dyk had wealth and fame but was unhappy at the thought of being alone, while the girl and boy were happy despite having nothing but each other.
