During the sessions for their third studio album, the Mexican pop-rock band Maná recorded "Oye mi amor," a track that WEA Latina released as the first single from ¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños? in 1992. Leading off the album with the song put it at the front of a record that would become a defining release for the band.

The single had a long commercial life. It reached number 32 on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart on the issue dated 20 April 2000, spending six weeks on that chart, years after its original release.

Decades on, the song remained part of Maná's performing repertoire. On 11 June 2026, the band played "Oye mi amor" at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing the track to one of the largest audiences in sport.

Oye mi amor runs at 81 BPM, the tempo of boom-bap hip-hop, reggae and slow R&B. In classical terms it sits in andante territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 2.96 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 741 ms. It is in B minor, Camelot 10A, which shares its notes with D major and mixes cleanly with E minor and F# minor.
