In August 2005 Nickelback put out "Photograph" as the first single from their fifth album, All the Right Reasons. Chad Kroeger wrote it from his own life, describing it as nostalgia for growing up in a small town and for friends he had drifted away from. The photograph he holds up in the video, of himself and his friend Joey Moi with a champagne chiller on Joey's head, is the one he sings about.

Kroeger admitted he had broken into his high school and stolen money from the office safe eleven times. "Half a dozen" flowed better in the lyrics. Nigel Dick directed the video in Hanna, Alberta, the band's hometown. In it Kroeger walks past a rusty mailbox numbered 29025 and an old building marked Hanna High School, which has since been demolished and is now a vacant field. The band then plays an impromptu concert in the gym.

The single peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks and Pop 100 charts. In the UK it first reached number 29. A re-release in June 2008 took it to number 18.

Photograph runs at 72 BPM, the tempo of soul, trip-hop and half-time hip-hop. In classical terms it sits in largo territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 3.33 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 833 ms. It is in Ab major, Camelot 4B, which shares its notes with F minor and mixes cleanly with Db major and Eb major.
