Lamb of God were gearing up for the release of their fifth album, Sacrament, when they put out "Redneck" as its first single. The Richmond, Virginia heavy metal band, formed in 1994 under the name Burn the Priest, produced a music video alongside the song. Vocalist Randy Blythe told Metal Hammer that the lyrics were aimed at people in the music industry whose egos become needlessly inflated, though he added that it was a general song applicable to anyone, and that fans were free to take it and make it their own.
The video took a comedic route. It opens with a young girl named Mary Jane, whose birthday is approaching. Her mother decides to hire professional entertainment instead of having her father play music, and after finding a band ad in the yellow pages, she assumes Lamb of God is a Christian band because of the name and books them. The band's tour bus then rolls up to the suburban birthday party full of marijuana and scantily clad groupies, and the group and their crew trash the place while setting up a stage. As they play, everyone except little Mary flees from the aggressive metal sound. The video closes with Blythe falling unconscious into a kiddie pool while Mary laughs. The song itself earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance at the 2007 Grammy Awards.
