Klaus Meine, Herman Rarebell and Rudolf Schenker wrote "Rock You Like a Hurricane", and Dieter Dierks arranged and produced it. It was the lead single from Love at First Sting, the ninth studio album by Scorpions, in 1984. Its lyrics reference the album's title. It reached number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and MTV put the video in heavy rotation. The racetrack on the single's sleeve is the Circuito de Jerez in Spain.

The band's German origins go back to Hanover in 1965, when Schenker formed it. The song became their signature. In 2002 the Carolina Hurricanes began using it as the team intro, and their mascot Stormy plants a storm warning flag into PNC Arena.

Scorpions have recorded it again several times. A new version called "Hurricane 2000" appeared on the album Moment of Glory, backed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and it was titled "Hurricane 2001" when played on the follow-up, Acoustica. A third re-recording is on Comeblack, released in 2011.

Rock You Like a Hurricane runs at 124 BPM, the tempo of house, disco and most club dance music. In classical terms it sits in allegro territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.94 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 484 ms. It is in G major, Camelot 9B, which shares its notes with E minor and mixes cleanly with C major and D major.
