Saltwater

In 2003, four years after its release, "Saltwater" by Chicane was picked up for a national tourism campaign for Ireland, and Belfast City Council also used it in adverts promoting the city. The track had originally come out as a single in May 1999, reaching number six on the UK Singles Chart and becoming a popular trance record in clubs across Europe.

The song featured vocals from Irish singer Máire Brennan of Clannad and built on parts of her band's 1982 hit "Theme from Harry's Game", using both re-recorded and newly written lyrics. Chicane was the project of English musician Nicholas Bracegirdle, and the track appeared on his second studio album, Behind the Sun, which was certified gold in the UK.

A music video was filmed in February 1999 and cut between two contrasting settings. Calm surfing footage was shot in Woolacombe in North Devon, an area with many beaches popular with surfers, while frenzied nightclub footage was filmed at a studio on Old Street in London and at the Gatecrasher One club in Sheffield, then known as "The Republic". The single was issued in a range of formats, from a UK cassette carrying the radio edit and the Mothership mix to a US maxi-CD that also included versions of "Don't Give Up" and "Autumn Tactics". The UK 12-inch paired the nine-and-a-half-minute original mix with a Tomski vs. Disco Citizens remix.
