White Zombie released "Thunder Kiss '65" as a single three times before it gained the attention of Mike Judge, whose show Beavis and Butt-head aired its video in 1993. The American heavy metal band had put the song out in 1992 as the first official single from its third studio album, La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One. Actor lines on it come from the 1965 exploitation film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!.

The video was directed by Juliet Cuming and showed the band playing in a desert with dancers and monsters. According to Rob Zombie, it was the lowest budgeted video the band ever made. It still got heavy airplay on MTV. The exposure on Beavis and Butt-head, in the episode "Yogurt's Cool", raised the band's popularity. The song earned White Zombie its first Grammy nomination, for Best Metal Performance.

Other uses followed. Extreme Championship Wrestling used a mix of it, alongside the opening of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails, for its weekend syndicated show from 1994 to 1997. It introduced Puck in the original broadcast of the 1994 season of The Real World: San Francisco, and it was in the 2007 movie Wild Hogs.

Thunder Kiss '65 runs at 112 BPM, the tempo of pop, funk and disco-leaning dance. In classical terms it sits in moderato territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 2.14 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 536 ms. It is in A major, Camelot 11B, which shares its notes with F# minor and mixes cleanly with D major and E major.
