Tribal Dance

Phil Wilde wrote and produced "Tribal Dance" alongside Jean-Paul De Coster, giving the track the trumpet riff and varied drum patterns that ran through it from start to finish. Wilde composed the song with 2 Unlimited rapper Ray Slijngaard, Xavier Clayton and Filip Martens, and it arrived in April 1993 as the second single from the Belgian/Dutch band's second album, No Limits! One early moment came straight from cinema, since the "Say that again" lyric at the start was sampled from the 1985 film Back to the Future. In the UK, the release dropped the main rap but kept more of Slijngaard's vocals than any of the band's previous singles had.

The single topped the charts in Finland, Israel, Portugal and Spain, and in June 1993 it also reached number one on both the Eurochart Hot 100 and the European Dance Radio Chart. It peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart, holding that position for two weeks, while in North America it spent three weeks at the top of the Canadian RPM Dance chart and reached number seven on the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart. Germany awarded it a gold record after 250,000 singles were shipped there. Filmed at Black Island studios in London, the music video used blue screen to show the band swinging across a jungle backdrop, with tribal dancers performing behind them.
