"U Got 2 Let the Music" began life as a reworking of "Let the Music", a 1992 song by Legend, another project of Italian producer Gianfranco Bortolotti, of which former Cappella member Diego Leoni was also part. Bortolotti had started Cappella as a studio project with his record company Media Record's team of DJs and producers, chasing the perfect commercial dance formula. After a run of minor hits in the late 1980s and early '90s, the project grew steadily more commercial, and Bortolotti picked British dancer Kelly Overett and American rapper Rodney Bishop to be the regular public face of the group. The September 1993 single became their first release with the new pair.
The track also sampled "Sounds Like a Melody", a 1984 song by the German group Alphaville, though none of that song's writers received credits on Cappella's album U Got 2 Know. In a 1993 interview with Music & Media, Bortolotti explained that Cappella's sound had become less techno and more pop-oriented, with the new line-up giving the group a fresh image.
Released as the fourth single from the album, "U Got 2 Let the Music" reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and topped the charts in Austria, Finland and Switzerland. It was the 36th-best-selling single of 1993 in the UK, and the accompanying music video, filmed in London, received heavy rotation on MTV Europe in January 1994.
