The music video for "Warwick Avenue" premiered on Channel 4 on 23 April 2008 and was directed by Daniel Wolfe. It was almost entirely one shot: Duffy leaving Warwick Avenue tube station in the back of a black taxi, crying as she sang the song. The taxi scene had originally been intended as just one part of a longer video, but Wolfe decided to build the whole clip around it after Duffy cried real tears on camera. The video ends with her still in the car, wiping away tears that had ruined her make-up, and it later earned a nomination for Best UK Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, losing to "Shut Up and Let Me Go" by the Ting Tings.
The song, by British singer Duffy, takes its title from the London tube station and appeared on her debut album Rockferry. Written by Duffy with Jimmy Hogarth and Eg White and produced by Hogarth, it was released in May 2008 as the third single from the album, though download sales had already pushed it onto the UK Singles Chart by March, when it entered at number eighty-three. It climbed gradually to number three and spent six weeks in the top ten. The B-side of the 7" single, "Loving You", was written by Duffy with Richard J. Parfitt of the 60ft Dolls and Owen Powell of Catatonia. Duffy performed the song at the 2009 Brit Awards, where she won three awards, the most for a female artist in one night.
