On August 26, 1982, Judas Priest opened the Vengeance World Tour at the Stabler Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and played "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" for the first time. The song came from their album Screaming for Vengeance and was released as a single later that year. It went on to be played 673 times through the 2012 Epitaph Tour.
Rob Halford said the lyrics came from an attitude the band had always had, a way of dealing with whatever challenged them. He tied it to the way the heavy metal community supports one another, and called it a song of hope and resilience.
In the United States the single reached number 4 on the Billboard rock chart and number 67 on the Hot 100, the only Judas Priest song to make that chart. In the United Kingdom it peaked at number 66. Julien Temple directed the video at the Kempton Park Water Works, where the band plays outside a pumping station among lasers and smoke while an authority figure arrives to shut them down for the noise.
You've Got Another Thing Comin' runs at 138 BPM, the tempo of techno, trance and big-room dance. In classical terms it sits in allegro territory. A bar of 4/4 lasts 1.74 seconds, and a quarter-note delay is 435 ms. It is in F# minor, Camelot 11A, which shares its notes with A major and mixes cleanly with B minor and C# minor.
