Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

A live version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009. The recording came from Daft Punk's Alive 2007 album, captured at Bercy in Paris on 14 June 2007, and it was released as a download single on 15 October 2007. The track also wove in part of the "Television Rules the Nation / Crescendolls" segment from the same performance, drawing on elements of "Around the World", "Steam Machine" and "Television Rules the Nation".

The original song had come out on 13 October 2001 as the fourth single from Daft Punk's second album, Discovery. Its foundation was a keyboard riff sampled from Edwin Birdsong's 1979 funk track "Cola Bottle Baby", and the vocals ran through a vocoder. When Birdsong spoke about the sample in 2016, he recalled asking the French duo where they had found the music, and they told him they had been going through bins when it popped out. He described himself as blessed for having opened his arms to God every day.

The song also reached audiences through video. An animated clip directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi under Leiji Matsumoto's supervision showed four alien characters transformed by machines in an electronic facility, and it later appeared as a scene in the film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. A separate video for the live version, directed by Olivier Gondry, used footage shot by the audience on 250 cameras at a Brooklyn performance in Coney Island.
