One More Time

By 1998, Daft Punk had already worked with Romanthony once before. The American vocalist had released the single "Hold On" on Thomas Bangalter's label, Roulé, and the two parties had been friends since meeting at the 1996 Winter Music Conference. That connection led to "One More Time", which the French duo completed in 1998 and then left sitting on a shelf until Virgin Records released it on 13 November 2000 as the lead single from their second album, Discovery.

The track was built on a sample of "More Spell on You", an obscure 1978 disco song by Eddie Johns. Daft Punk took the horn section and rearranged it into the hook, while Romanthony wrote and performed the vocal part, which ran through heavy Auto-Tune processing. Bangalter defended the choice, comparing complaints about the technology to late-'70s French musicians trying to ban the synthesizer. He noted that Romanthony liked the effect and was interested in innovation. The duo considered the finished track the link connecting Homework to Discovery.

The single topped the French Singles Chart, reached number two in the United Kingdom and number 61 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its music video later became part of the 2003 anime film Interstella 5555, where the song opens the story with a concert by a blue-skinned alien band before spaceships invade the venue. Johns, meanwhile, received no credit for the sample and, as of 2021, had never been paid.
