Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan formed The Crystal Method in Las Vegas in 1993, and by 1997 the duo had released "Busy Child" as a breakbeat single from their debut album Vegas. The track reached #17 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart and remained on that chart even ten years later, a run that made it one of the group's most recognizable works.
Vegas itself proved durable. The album was certified platinum in 2007, a decade after its release, and was followed by Tweekend, Legion of Boom, Divided by Night, and The Crystal Method. The duo's music found its way into numerous TV shows, films, video games, and advertisements over the years.
"Busy Child" was promoted with at least two music videos. The original 1997 version, directed by Lance Bangs and Eli Bonerz, was mostly CGI. A second version, directed by Clark Eddy, interspersed live concert footage with clips from the Lost in Space movie and became the more recognizable of the two. In 2017, Jordan retired from music, leaving Kirkland to carry on The Crystal Method as a solo moniker.
