Heaven

Bryan Adams spent much of 1983 on the road with Journey, playing more than 100 dates as the opening act on the band's Frontiers Tour. During that stretch he and Jim Vallance wrote "Heaven", a song heavily influenced by Journey's hit "Faithfully". Adams recorded it at the Power Station in New York City on June 6 and 7, 1983. The session hit a snag halfway through when drummer Mickey Curry, who had warned Adams about his limited availability, had to leave for a previously committed Hall & Oates session. With the recording running behind schedule, Adams called Journey's drummer Steve Smith, who was in New York City at the time, and Smith filled in behind the kit.

The song first surfaced on the soundtrack to the 1983 film A Night in Heaven, though no single followed. When Adams was assembling Reckless, he doubted the track belonged on the album, and producer Jimmy Iovine agreed, feeling it was too light for the record. At the last moment Adams changed his mind.

Released as the third single from Reckless in April 1985, "Heaven" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 that June, over a year and a half after it first appeared on record. It gave Adams his first chart-topping single in the United States and was certified Gold in Canada that year.
