Taste It

In 1992, INXS were promoting Welcome to Wherever You Are, their eighth album, and by November of that year they had lifted a fourth single from it. That single, "Taste It", was written by Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence and released through Eastwest Records. It reached No. 21 in the United Kingdom and No. 36 in Australia, while in the United States it climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It also charted in New Zealand and Switzerland.

The B-sides gave the release some variety. Guitarist Kirk Pengilly contributed "Light the Planet", a solo composition, alongside Youth remixes of "Taste It" and a Ralphi Rosario club mix of "Not Enough Time", a song that would later become a single itself. In the UK, a second CD was available, carrying further club mixes of three singles drawn from the X album.

The band behind the record had come a long way from Sydney, where they had formed in 1977 under the name the Farriss Brothers, a phonetic play on "in excess" coming later. The founding lineup featured Garry Gary Beers on bass, Andrew Farriss on keyboards, Jon Farriss on drums, Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly on guitars, and Michael Hutchence on lead vocals. Hutchence fronted the group for twenty years, his stage presence making him the focal point of INXS throughout that period.
